Antique Scrolls

I am fascinated by wire and what one can do with it. One of the most versatile and most intriguing shape for me is the circle, closely followed by the scroll: they both inspire in my the infinite, the never-ending, the vast enormity of life.

With the school end approaching, I experimented a bit with some wire pendants - they both landed with a teacher (and they both loved it). The design is not mine, I found the idea in a book (sorry, forgot which book and it's back to the library), then I modified the concept a bit.

The original pendant was using clear bead string for the beads (green version), but I didn't like it at all. Mind you, I wasn't 100% happy with the wire version either, more experiments are needed :)

While struggling with the green version, at one point I just had the scroll frame in my hand - and that I loved very much. So I made a simpler version of the scroll pendant, with just a beautiful Swarovski butterfly.

I'm still trying to decide which I like better :) Which version do you like best?

  1. I like the green one better!

Am really impressed with the wrapping you have done here. I have tried it SO many times, but have not succeeded so far. the wrap either turns out too loose or too messy :(

    1. Thanks, Kashmira - try watching the Beadaholique videos on YouTube, they have some neat ones. Sometimes it's hard to figure out from books :)

  2. Beautiful wirework! My favorite color is green, and I'd sway toward the first pattern. Somehow feels more substantial for all the wirework. Both are pretty tho

    1. Thank you, I'll have to alter the first design a tad, maybe I'll come up with something I like better :)

  3. Alicia, I would normally go for green also ( my favourite colour) but I am drawn to the second one as the little butterfly is like a "surprise", almost like it will fly away if I look too long! I admire your wire-wrapping; I have big hands... I call them "man-hands"... and they like hammers WAY more then pliers (and it really shows when I try to wrap)!

    1. Thanks, Monique - I am glad to like the butterfly-scroll. The pictures don't do much justice to either scroll :)
